Wow!
It’s been a wild ride recently. Biden and Trump’s indisputably worst ever presidential debate, SCOTUS doing the thing they’re being paid for, Project 2025 finally getting decent traction in democratic circles so they understand what’s happening (and that heritage foundation christian nationalist saying this is their take on a second revolution and basically goading reaction of fringe left to try to set things off). Whaaaat the hell is even happening? This will be more of a stream of consciousness post with a few different things that I’ll try to dive into at a later time.
I’ve typed up stuff on a handful of items the entire umbrella of the left, but I can sum up, extremely succinctly, a way to solve many immediate crisis-level problems: FUCKING CONSEQUENCES!
- SCOTUS takes bribes, do not recuse when appropriate – 0 oversight and accountability?
- Trump still a threat? Well he shouldn’t be because he should simply be in jail (take your pick on why).
- Hell – we don’t even know if our low taxes on the wealthy are as bad in practice as we think because they simply get around paying taxes! Maybe we don’t need to cap things if the shit was enforced to begin with and loopholes constantly cut.
I’ve also been thinking over how ego plays a huge role with the current crop of old-as-fuck politicians who don’t step down – and even people who aren’t of that demographic (like Gaetz not stepping down after the being a pedophile story, Cruz not stepping down in shame after fleeing his state during the storm). People in these positions seem to think they are important and not necessarily the position (or maybe a perverse combo).
But what the hell do we do about this? Many people seem to not see this all as an existential threat with the president have a legal level of immunity, the dems appearing to have 0 response to that aside from letting it ride but Biden will “respect norms” totally tracks with the flaccidness of the dems. All forms of meaningful protest are illegal in some way or another — unless enough people are riled up that legality would be a moot point. People are more interested in various forms of entertainment and self-indulgence versus taking any time to think about what’s happening and the larger meanings and impacts to our immediate and near futures (not shaming – I absolutely indulge in various things, but it’s been normalized to completely take our eyes off the ball). There just seems to be a need for something to happen to cause a huge shift.
It’s like we’re in a prairie dog colony some of us are screaming there’s a predator but it’s not getting through. More are looking and shouting with every passing, disgusting change toward christian nationalism, but at what point will there need to be a drastic push-back versus constantly being on our heels?
