Reflecting on Now

You know, it was about time the billionaires got a win. Really happy for them. Time for some stream of consciousness writing with minor editing.

I wanted to put together some thoughts of what’s next. The only thing that really changes are a bunch of people with enlarged amygdalas, coupled with likely a lesser amount of sociopaths, and then whatever top percents of wealth allow you to trade in any sense of humanity for more wealth until the cognitive dissonance rings loud enough to apparently smooth over most of the brain all came together to make the sledding tougher. I’m not going to go in and attack Americans who were likely born in a way that leads them to react to fear mongering – trying not to work with that is a losing battle and may as well be ice skating uphill. Maybe the sociopaths, and definitely the rich assholes who were born on third and think they hit a homerun or the ones who are trying to pull up the ladder after they made their climb – but the studies showing people with larger amygdalas generally aligning with the dumb type of conservative is a bit of a curveball to take in honestly.

Anyway, what happened and what’s next? Well, the dam broke. That’s not necessarily a bad thing in the march of time, but it’s a bad thing for people now. Legal and illegal immigrants (who do a lot for the economy), anyone that doesn’t conform to limited, historic gender norms and perhaps even neurodivergent individuals, the voters worst off in America (many of whom voted for this upcoming fresh hell), and regular people just navigating life will all generally feel the vice, should Trump enact his plans as advertised. Of course, who the hell knows what he’ll actually do. That’s along with the various lifetime appointments and damage that will get done with an eager group of sycophants surrounding him and people who will absolutely abuse their power through loopholes and get things caught up in our legal system so there’s no accountability.

So, what’s the silver lining?

  • Sometimes it’s nice to have the anxiety of an event be gone, and the lead up to the election was just atrocious.
  • The results could, inadvertently, cause the dems to move further left – I don’t like this as an option because it would further entrench the party duopoly, but would understand the appeal.
  • I personally feel a bit of a strong resolve and I hope others who have been paying attention & learning history and how we got here.
  • It’s nice when nazis and others with terrible views feel empowered and make themselves known. It is easier to avoid them.

Anyway, not much of a silver lining.

I really thought a rape conviction would have been enough for people. That or the stolen documents. It really shows how much of a cult we’re dealing with. My thoughts were the dems would eek it out and we would avoid fascism and have a chance to bring about meaningful change based on how close we came. Fucking whoops. To not be able to look and make a pragmatic decision while separately working to make the system better was the most sensible thing we could have done as a society, but I don’t know how people can’t separate that. It’s fine to not like who you’re voting for, but still understanding which group is easier to work with, who will do the least harm comparatively, and then people should be doing what they can to shore up the rest outside of election seasons. It’s not hard to understand, and I don’t know why this isn’t the default approach by people – well, maybe that goddam amygdala. lol

We had nazis marching in my town yesterday, as well. This brought up another point of people who are insufferable, but I do kind of understand them. These are people who fall into the paradox of tolerance and the moment a nazi appears they come to their defense under freedom of speech. Well, maybe we need to rethink that? I don’t know what the right answer is to balance the paradox of tolerance, but the energy the people bring who are so eager to bring up the first amendment do so in order not to think about the paradox, or acknowledge the paradox and defer to nazis. That’s not the way to go. I’m not going to make a knee-jerk judgment on what’s right, but there’s never been a good nazi, and perhaps we should tell them to fuck off. The only difficulty for citizens is that it’s likely the police are more aligned with the nazis, so getting a group together to show what the results should be for cosplaying as a loser should be would likely end up with bullets flying from the police.

I’ll still be doing what I can to learn new skills, continue learning about the past and present, and then see where everything ends up, eager to take advantage of any opportunities that arise. Luckily I’m in a bit of an oasis in a red state (and let’s be real, I’m a straight white guy which makes it wayyyy easier day to day).
