The Uncomfortable Reality of a Coup

Things are moving quickly, and it’s clear that billionaires—mixed with evangelical Christian nationalists—are orchestrating a coup. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill political maneuver; it’s a modern takeover in a powerful nation, destined to be sorted out only in the history books while our current institutions crumble into pieces. What we do know is that these actions mirror aspects of Curtis Yarvin’s bullshit and the rhetoric of Project 2025. Since the same figures from those circles are deeply involved in the current admin, calling this anything else would be downright dishonest.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and can’t quite make sense of it all, that confusion is by design. After digging into a decade’s worth of articles, books, and podcasts (shoutout to Behind The Bastards), it’s evident that the US has let a toxic cabal flourish. We’ve screwed ourselves over with the tolerance-of-intolerance paradox, and too many people still don’t get it. I’d be lying if I said I knew how to fix this. I have long-term solutions in mind—they’re pretty straightforward in theory—but it’s getting the masses moving that is another beast entirely.

This site started as my attempt to offer bite-sized, digestible nuggets of information to steer us toward a better future and to grow change from within. My main focuses have been enacting ranked-choice voting, strengthening public education, and ending gerrymandering. But the system is like a caterpillar that refuses to form a cocoon—constantly consuming without ever transforming into a butterfly. We’re stuck with billionaires and Christian radicals who, under the guise of calm, rational leadership, preach wildly insane ideas while pretending to be the voice of sanity. Their ideologies were cooked up in labs funded by the Kochs or other right-wing ghouls who, after failing to shape the Libertarian Party to their liking, co-opted the GOP. For more on the money and ideas behind it all, check out Nancy MacLean’s Democracy in Chains. There’s a wealth of articles, videos, and podcasts that delve into the tech-bro involvement and how it all connects.

Below is a video that dives into Yarvin’s nonsense and its ties to figures like Musk, Vance, Thiel, and others. One thing you’ll notice in everything you read or watch on this subject is the ever-present receipts—proof that these seemingly absurd actions aren’t just conspiracy theories but part of an actual conspiratorial playbook. Sure, it won’t always go by the book—that’s just not how the world works—but they’re doing everything in their power to push their agenda.

Knowing all this, it’s incredibly hard to carry on as if nothing’s wrong. How can you go to work without thinking that your retirement savings are being funneled into an increasingly authoritarian, unpredictable future? Uncertainty is one thing—but when it’s tied to authoritarianism, your fortunes are essentially on the line: obey the system, or risk seeing everything vanish. The mental strain is intense, and with no meaningful outlet, compartmentalizing feels nearly impossible. So what are we supposed to do?

Is violence the answer? More Luigi Mangione’s? Maybe. But there are caveats. Part of the plan involves seizing control of all the forces—police, the National Guard, and so on. What’s an easy way to achieve that? Targeted acts of violence against those orchestrating this coup would certainly pave the way, suggesting that violence might only be part of the solution. Someone—or many someones—will have to pay for what’s happening if we let the coup complete unchecked. History, especially the Civil War, teaches us that traitors can’t simply return to normal life; left unchallenged, they’ll keep spreading their monstrous ideals without consequence. If those who want progress don’t take a stand—even if that stand includes violent resistance—then the coup will almost certainly succeed.

Protests and calling senators or congressional reps? They might ultimately be symbolic gestures, but I wholeheartedly encourage you to get involved—I do, myself. I don’t have high hopes for the system these days, but sometimes just the right push on the right person at the right time can spark meaningful action. Long shots can pay off, and these are among the few things almost anyone can do.

Sabotage or malicious compliance? This is one I’m going to look up and expand on in the near future, provided nothing dramatically changes (which it probably will). I want to combine hurting the capitalists and gumming up an early fascist project. I’ve read a few different things like mailback days where you take the prepaid envelopes from things like credit card apps and mail them back with enough weight to still be taken by the post office, but cost the company something around ~$10 per envelope. Things like that would be great collective responses that impact bottom lines. The CIA also has some ideas on various forms of sabotage.

More importantly – stay safe and sane! Remember that there are no roadmaps to a better future because if there were, we’d be there by now. Sometimes we need to cut down the brush in front of us to clear a path.
